A new park by LDA Design is at the heart of proposals for a £1 billion development in Salford, submitted for planning by Henley Investment Management with Savills and Matt Brook Architects.
The development will transform the big box units of Salford’s Regent Retail Park to create a sustainable new place to live, creating a car free core with 3,200 new homes and the tallest tower outside of London. Warm tones will ensure the development reflects the city’s textile mills and industrial-era warehouses.
The central green space sits within a wider two-hectare linear park providing places to play and bringing close contact with nature to people living here or visiting. The park will be open to the public and will foster community, connecting to the surrounding communities of Orsdall with direct connections into Manchester via the recently opened Orsdall Footbridge.
The new park will be Salford’s first in a generation and will be comparable in scale to Mayfield Park in Manchester.
Mark Graham, a director at LDA Design and Manchester studio lead, said: “In Salford, there is a distinct need for publicly accessible, high-quality green space – places for children to play and for nature to thrive.
“This is a significant development with landscape and placemaking at its heart. It demonstrates the importance of connecting new homes to playful, quality green space and investing in local infrastructure so that new and existing communities can benefit together.”
The development will include a strong commercial and retail presence to ensure residents can do their day-to-day shopping without travelling further afield.
