Rail station place-making at our October forum
We are delighted to welcome Liam Harrison, Market Director, SNC-Lavalin's Atkins business to our 10th October forum where we will be discussing station place-making. Liam has vast experience working on rail project place-making from HS2 through to Old Oak Common and Crossrail.
Liam believes that stations are no longer just a place to catch a train but an essential part of our cities' economic growth. Properly designed and integrated stations can have an immense impact on their communities.
Atkins is leading a team of consultants in the planning and design work for Leeds station. The new Leeds Integrated Station Masterplan report provides the blueprint for the station's transformation into a distinctive hub of international significance, integrating national, regional and local transport services with HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail. Atkins is leading a team of consultants in the planning and design work of the station.
The proposed new front entrance will create a world-class gateway entrance to Leeds and the masterplan sets out the potential for three million square feet of new commercial development around the station, with 7,000-square meters of complementary leisure and retail space inside as paert of the new common concourse. The plan also supports delivery of an innovation district which will create a 21st century science park.
