CW+ research: art = less anaesthetic
Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust's charity, CW+ spoke at our Healthy Cities Forum on 9th October at The Crystal in Docklands about the impact that its provision of art, video and music is having on patient care.
Trystan Hawkins, the Director for Patient Environment, said that research has shown that patients undergoing surgery needed 0.83 mg / kg less anaesthesia, and required one day less in hospital as a result of the art and music interventions and installations at the Chelsea and Westminster. He also highlighted the fact that these are all privately funded commissions at the hospital, aimed at helping patients recover both physically and psychologically from treatment.
The charity commissions art around the hospital as well as music to support patients in their health journeys. Ballet Rambert has also been brought in to guide staff in how to move around the hospital to aid a peaceful environment for patients.
