M&G Real Estate says an important element of its investment strategy is to look for opportunities in cities outside London.
Chris Perkins, Head of Business Space at the firm, has been speaking at our Future Cities Forum held at Burlington House, London, in June.
Recently, M&G invested £23 million through the acquisition of the ground lease of the new Marriott Courtyard Hotel at Baxter's Place in Edinburgh. The hotel was developed by Chris Stewart Group across three grade A listed Georgian townhouses with a modern extension to the rear with a city centre location next to the Playhouse Theatre and George Street.
Edinburgh is seen by M&G Real Estate as one of Europe's leading hotel markets with over four million visitors each year and the investment helps to meet the demand from institutional and pension investors for long term income with security that increases in line with inflation.
M&G has also invested in office accommodation at 2 Snow Hill, Birmingham, which will provide head-quarters workspace for the HS2 construction team, relocating from London. See image above and watch Chris speak at our forum about the value of good public realm:
