Arup and Future Cities Forum - IET, London
Contributors to our Future Cities Forum yesterday at the IET in London are continuing to feed ideas into our blog which has become popular worldwide.
Arup gave an excellent presentation at our event on its work with regard to the development of London's Olympic Park, the Garden Bridge Project and 'green envelopes' in London. Now the company is publicising its collaborative working with the Landscape Institute and the Royal Botannical Gardens, Kew on a report called 'Cities Alive - Rethinking green infrastructure'.
The belief behind the report is that greening our cities is more than an aesthetic - it has real value to physical and mental health; there is a need for design creativity to deliver a green city ecosystem and an integrated approach to avoid 'silo-driven' cultures.
Zaha-Hadid's Principal, Patrik Schumacher opened our eyes to the need for building design to incorporate the sinuous forms of nature while Oxford City Council's David Edwards talked about the need for expert planning of green spaces in proposed garden villages.
