Zaha Hadid Architects design Russian Technopark
It was the Russian avant-garde that inspired Zaha Hadid in her design ideas for The Sberbank Technopark at Skolkovo Innovation Centre, Moscow.
Russia's equivalent to Silicon Valley and covering over 130 thousand square meters, the Technopark will be home to the laboratories of a fast developing IT, biomedical, energy, nuclear and space innovations centre.
Zaha Hadid Architects beat off competition from Foster+Partners(UK), Eric Owen Moss Architects(USA) and Fuksas(Italy).
Project Director, Christos Passas described how Zaha Hadid with her understanding of the Russian avant-garde: ' realised how architecture can enrich creativity; how space itself, can enhance dynamism, complexity, coherence and continuity.
' These principles are embedded within the Sberbank Technopark design.....Our research into interconnected, multi-function environments has driven...the design..it responds to the requirements for enhanced communication, interaction and diversification'.
Building work will begin in a year's time and take around two years to complete. 10 to 12 thousand people will work in the information technology and marketing departments.
